Jackson Publick's A Bold New Day Dawns

OK, I'm a little late reporting this. Sorry, blame the place I work. Anyway, Jackson Publick AKA Christopher McCulloch, has a new article (if you can call March 27th "new").

It is called"A Bold New Day Dawns"

"...you probably have some questions about the upcoming season, and just what the hell we think we're doing over here at the AstroBase. Questions such as..."

"WHEN WILL SEASON 4.2 FINALLY AIR?"

MTV's The Maxx

There was a time when MTV was a innovative music television channel. Most of the cable channels programs was music, like its name suggests. This was long before The Real World and all the other “reality shows” that fill the programing today. They did have an occasional show that wasn't music related, and one of those was called MTV's Oddities.

There were two shows I remember, one called The Head, and the other, one of my favorites, called The Maxx. The Maxx was a 13 part cartoon which was not only based on Sam Kieth's wonderful comic but used much on his actual artwork.

How to describe The Maxx? That is a hard one. It is the story on Julie Winters, a freelance social worker, we friend, The Maxx, a large purple guy with a weird mask, Mr. Gone, an odd fellow who is the only one who seems to know what it going on and much more, Maxx seems to travel between two worlds, one the normal, corrupt world, and the other, the outback, in which he is a hero protecting Julie, the jungle queen. I'm not doing the show justice.

I had recorded them on VHS when they were originally on but as I tried to transfer these to DVD, they recordings didn't hold up to well. The tracking was messed up among other things. I also has a VHS tape of The Maxx that I had purchased years back but it was an edited version with some of the music changed. At least on whole episode was left out. I decided to just to to get what I could off the old VHS and just deal with it,

My wife found a recent (2009) DVD release of the series that I didn't know existed. It was the complete 13 shows with commentary and bonus material. Happy days!

I have also discovered that, and the reason I'm writing this, is that all 13 shows are available to your watching pleasure at MTV's website. I highly suggest that anyone in animation should give this is try.
